Sherene Seikaly (CMES Director and Associate Professor in History) received the distinguished Jere L. Bacharach Service Award in recognition of exceptional service to the field of Middle East Studies.
In the words of the selection committee, "While her scholarly achievements are well known to many in the field, Dr Seikaly has had an extraordinary record of professional service. She has been a role model of intellectual generosity and a leader in collaborative initiatives that have given rise to new organizations and networks in our field and beyond our field and to groundbreaking venues for publications across a variety of platforms." In addition to serving as Director of CMES, throughout her career, Sherene has served on numerous institutional and editorial boards, shaping and deepening the fields of Middle East History and Palestine Studies. She serves as editor of Journal of Palestine Studies, co-editor of the Stanford Studies Middle Eastern and Islamic Societies and Cultures Series, co-founder and co-editor of Jaddaliya, senior editor of Arab Studies Journal, and an editorial board member of the American Historical Review. Beyond publishing, she is an active board member of the Palestinian American Research Center, and has contributed to numerous initiatives including the Palestinian Feminist Collective, the Political Economy Project, and the Black Feminist Think Tank.
